Joe Latchum is a partner in the Financial Services Section at Williams Mullen. He has 34 years of experience on the Virginia Peninsula representing businesses and individuals in a variety of legal matters, including corporate, commercial transactions, banking, real estate development and civil litigation. Mr. Latchum is an experienced corporate attorney and has served as general counsel to public and private companies. He also represents local and national lenders as well as borrowers in commercial loan transactions, loan workouts, foreclosures and collections. In addition, he represents real estate developers in land use, land acquisition, construction and development for mixed use projects, multi-family dwellings, condominiums, golf courses, and single family projects.

Representations
  1. Served as general counsel to Blessings Corporation, a Delaware corporation, engaged in manufacture of extruded, printed and converted polyolefin films with annual revenues of $175 million. This entity was headquartered in Newport News, Virginia with facilities in Georgia, Oklahoma and Mexico. Negotiated execution of definitive merger agreement sale by cash tender offer of all outstanding shares of company to Huntsman Packaging Corporation for $280 million in 1998.
  2. C. Lewis Waltrip, II, et al v. Wilma Fells Fogarty, et al. Represented Appellants in appeal granted by the Virginia Supreme Court reversing judgment rendered by the Circuit Court of Gloucester County.
  3. Represented Texas developers in acquisition of Yoder Dairy Farm, Newport News, Virginia, through acquisition, rezoning and land planning, financing with life insurance company through commercial development.
  4. Mosteller v. Life Insurance Company of Virginia. Represented personal representative of estate in suit against insurance carrier for payments under double indemnity provisions for accidental death.
  5. Represented injured party in John Doe accident against a phantom truck driver involving a head injury claim.
  6. Represented a national bank in a defamation/lender liability action, wherein the Plaintiff sought $135 million in damages based on a multitude of theories alleging fraud, conspiracy and RICO violations. Circuit Court for City of Hampton.
  7. Represented Verizon Wireless in acquisition of commercial tract in Newport News through acquisition, re-zoning, and land planning, and modifying an existing City statute.
