Gov. Easley Announces E-mail Records Review Panel Adds New Member, Sets Meeting Dates

March 27, 2008

Raleigh, NC - Gov. Mike Easley today announced that Charles "Chuck" B. Neely, Jr. will serve on the E-mail Records Review Panel, which is conducting a comprehensive review of policies concerning the retention of e-mail messages under North Carolina's public records law. Neely is a partner in Williams Mullen's litigation and tax law sections.

"Chuck Neely's experience as a lawyer, former state Representative and lobbyist will be instrumental as the panel develops recommendations to ensure public records are properly maintained," said Easley.

Neely has practiced state and local tax litigation since 1979. He also has experience lobbying tax and other legislation in the North Carolina General Assembly. He has regularly been ranked by the North Carolina Center for Public Policy as one of North Carolina's most effective lobbyists. Neely served in the N.C. House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. Neely received his juris doctorate from the Duke University School of Law and his bachelor's degree with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The E-mail Records Review Panel held its first meeting today and has set the dates for its upcoming meetings. The next meeting will be a public hearing on Thursday, April 3 at 9:30 a.m. in the Council of State meeting room on the 5th floor of the Administration Building, 116 W. Jones St., Raleigh. The panel will also meet in the Council of State meeting room on April 18, April 30 and May 8. If necessary, the panel will meet on May 15.
