McLean, VA – Williams Mullen announced today that intellectual property attorney René Vazquez has joined the firm as partner in the McLean, Va. office. He has a wide range of patent law experience, focusing his practice on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, validity opinions, PCT applications, client counseling and infringement opinions. Mr. Vazquez also represents clients on a broad spectrum of technological fields, and has extensive experience assisting early stage/start-up companies in the development of their IP portfolios and in the formulation of strategies for leveraging IP assets.

Mr. Vazquez has seven years of industry experience in nonlinear optics, including material studies of photorefractive, organic and Kerr nonlinear media, while employed as a senior technical associate at Rockwell International Science Center. Mr. Vazquez also developed computer codes for plasma simulations during an internship at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Prior to joining Williams Mullen, Mr. Vazquez was a founding partner at a Herndon Virginia-based law firm.

Mr. Vazquez is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is co-inventor of a patented system for achieving polarization-independent energy exchange between optical beams.

Mr. Vazquez received his juris doctor degree from Whittier College School of Law in 1995 and his bachelor of science in physics from Millsaps College in 1986. He also attended the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1982 to 1983.
